Review of the Best Women’s Golf Shoes

Ladies’ or women’s golf shoes are probably one of the most overlooked yet important items you will buy when playing golf.

If you are just starting out as a beginner golfer, there is also the option of just wearing sneakers or running shoes which is what I did in the beginning.

As I started to play more golf though, I realized that having a good pair of shoes made specifically for golf, helped keep my feet stable, and provided better traction as well as weather protection in wet conditions than my sneakers.

When I started golfing over 25 years ago, there really was only one type of golf shoe available. Maybe a few different colors but it was pretty much the traditional leather golf shoes with metal spikes.

Like much of the golf industry, the golf shoe market today has exploded and I believe now has a much larger focus on comfort, performance, style, and fashion.

With so many choices now, I thought it would be helpful to provide a golf shoe buying guide to help you navigate purchasing a pair of golf shoes and what to think about when looking at all the different styles and brands out there.

I admit that I love shoes and I love golf and may have purchased and accumulated quite a few pairs over the years. I am happy to talk about the pros and cons as well.

I’ve listed my favorites and top recommended ladies’ golf shoes here. Keep reading or scroll below to find the buying guide for women’s golf shoes.

The List of Best Women’s Golf Shoes

Skechers Golf Shoes

Skechers has been in the shoe business for almost 30 years and is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to comfort and performance.

If you watch golf on TV or read any to the golf magazines, you may have seen Tour players, Matt Kuchar or Brooke Henderson wearing their Skechers Go Golf Shoes.

I love the fact that Skechers has now moved into the golf market as comfort is really so important in our sport especially if you are walking 9 or 18 holes.

Skechers Go Golf Women’s Max Golf Shoe

These Skechers Max Golf Shoes for Women are designed to look and feel like a sneaker or running shoe. They are lightweight, extremely comfortable, and offered in many different colors and styles.

Wide sizes are available, and as with many athletic shoes, it may be smart to go up a 1/2 size. These are spikeless golf shoes, which means they do still have tiny plastic grippers or nubs that provide some traction while golfing.

I own a pair of these Skechers Go Golf Max shoes and have worn them for the last several years. The golf course I play is pretty hilly so I need comfortable and reliable golf shoes that have enough grip and traction and are good for walking 18 holes of golf with my pushcart. These are one of my go-to golf shoes.

My reason for switching to a sneaker-like golf shoe was to help with my Achilles heel issue that I had developed. I needed to find a golf shoe that I could still walk 18 holes and not aggravate the pain on one of my heels. I like the mesh fabric as it is more flexible and not rigid in the back part of the shoe.

The mesh fabric also is extremely breathable in really hot weather, which keeps your feet cooler when the temperatures rise.

The downside to the mesh fabric is that they are not water-resistant or water proof, which means wet feet with even a little amount of wet weather or on dewy mornings.

I have noticed there are a few styles that have a synthetic rubber strip that wraps around the toe area, which might help with keeping the feet dry on those dewy mornings.

A great tip I was given when these golf shoes get dirty is to throw them in the washing machine. I was pleasantly surprised at how well they came out- clean and almost new looking and this was after 2 seasons of wear and tear.

Pros

  • Sneaker-like comfort
  • Price
  • Gripping traction with spikeless golf shoe
  • Fabric mesh is breathable and comfortable
  • Easy to clean
  • Many different color and style options
  • Machine washable

Cons

  • The mesh fabric is not water resistent or waterproof

Skechers Women’s Pivot Golf Shoe

These Skechers Women’s Pivot Golf Shoe are lightweight, comfortable, water-resistant, and are offered in several different style and color combinations.

As with many Skechers shoes, these are made with comfort in mind and use the Goga cushioning technology. Wide sizes are available, however, as with many athletic shoes, it may be smart to go up a 1/2 size.

These are spikeless golf shoes, which actually means there are still tiny plastic spikes or nubs that help grip the ground when hitting your golf shots.

Made with a synthetic material, they wipe clean and are water-resistant on dewy mornings.

Pros

  • Price
  • Comfort and GOGA Max Cushioning
  • Water-Resistant
  • Wipes Clean
  • Spikeless
  • Odor inhibitor, wicking moisture away, long lasting

Cons

  • Plastic grippers can get a little slippery on hard surfaces.
  • Water resistant, but no waterproof guarantee

ECCO Biom Hybrid Women’s Golf Shoe

This ECCO Biom Hybrid Women’s Golf Shoe is another favorite and is ultra-comfortable. The Ecco brand is a Danish company founded in 1963 and is known for its high-quality soft leather walking shoes around the world. They are also known for their innovation in footwear. In golf, to ensure a proven spikeless technology, they tested 2500 athletes to make sure that the shoe would perform to the highest level.

The 4 dots on the shoe symbolize “quality, comfort, technology, and style”. These ladies Ecco golf shoes provide amazing comfort for the golfer who needs a comfortable walking shoe as well as weather protection on wet rainy days or wet conditions on the golf course.

I wore these for at least 5 years and they were a favorite. Extremely comfortable, waterproof and I loved the soft leather which for me didn’t need to be broken in.

Pros

  • High-quality shoe and brand
  • Waterproof with Hydromax technology
  • Extremely comfortable for walking 9 or 18 holes
  • Soft, breathable high-quality leather
  • Spikeless
  • Comes in multiple different color choices

Cons

  • Price

Adidas Crossknit Women’s Golf Shoes

I really am starting to like the Adidas Golf brand. I feel like they are designing some great apparel and shoes that seem to fit women.

The Adidas Crossknit Women’s Golf Shoes are lightweight, flexible, and extremely solid feeling when walking the golf course and playing a round. They provide light to moderate arch support and are designed with a patented Boost foam technology that provides energized cushioning.

These particular Adidas shoes for golf are made with the mesh fabric that a lot of running type golf shoes are now made with, making them quite flexible and breathable. It has a synthetic strip on the toe area that helps keep dew from getting your feet wet. They are good for a nice sunny day however, they are not waterproof for muddy, wet or rainy conditions. I was concerned when I wore these on dewy mornings, but I wore them all last season with no issues with soggy feet.

One other note is that if you walk a lot, these were great for all the hills and terrain at my home course. I usually like loose-fitting golf shoes, but these provide my feet with a little extra support and coverage needed especially when walking some of the uneven terrains.

Just be careful when ordering as I went up a full size bigger and these shoes tend to run a bit on the narrow side.

Pros

  • Come in a choice of various colors.
  • Light arch support
  • Lightweight cloudfoam provides great cushioning
  • Spikeless golf shoes with small extra treads for grips
  • Mesh provides flexibility and breathability
  • Lateral stability through the golf swing

Cons

  • A snug fit that runs a bit narrow. Best to order 1/2 – 1 full size up.
  • A slip-on sneaker, tongue is attached.
  • Mesh fabric – not water-resistant or waterproof.

Adidas Adipure Women’s Golf Shoes

These Adidas Adipure Women’s Golf Shoes are a great all around golf shoe. They provide “cushioning, comfort, stability for maximum golf performance”.

The cushioning technology allows for amazing comfort while walking 9 or 18 holes of golf.

A friend of mine owns a pair of these and she mentioned that she likes how light and comfortable they are and that they keep her feet dry during some wetter conditions on the course.

Pros

  • Price
  • Comfortable for walking 9 or 18 holes
  • Spikeless
  • Microfiber leather and climastorm water resistant protection

Cons

  • None

FootJoy Boa Women’s Golf Shoes

I can not have a list of best women’s golf shoes without including FootJoy, a long-standing premier maker of golf shoes. They have been making shoes since 1857, and focus on “craftmanship, technology, style, fit and function”.

These FootJoy Boa Women’s Golf Shoes provide midfoot stability, enhanced traction, and comfort. If you are looking for enhanced, top-of-the-line traction and gripping performance in your golf swing, the Footjoy DryJoys use SoftSpike cleat technology.

Made with a full grain leather, they also come with a 2-year waterproof guarantee.

The ladies DryJoy golf shoes do not have laces to tie. Instead it uses BOA technology to help tighten the laces for a more custom fit for your feet.

In the beginning, they may feel a bit stiff as they are made of high-quality durable leather and may take time wearing in.

Footjoy Dryjoys were my first ever pair of golf shoes and once worn in, they lasted for many many years, keeping my feet nice and dry in all weather conditions.

Pros

  • High-quality full grain leather golf shoe
  • Great traction with Softspike cleats during your golf swing
  • 2 year waterproof guarantee
  • Long lasting golf shoe

Cons

  • Price
  • A little stiff and tight, may take time to wear in

Overall Recommendation

It is really hard to pick one shoe over another as we as individuals are different especially when it comes to our feet. Having said that, if I were to choose the best women’s golf shoe overall from this list, I’d pick the ECCO Biom Hybrid Women’s Golf Shoe.

I just love this golf shoe for their supreme comfort and that they keep feet dry and protected, and will last many years. It is also the golf shoe that I see others playing in the most on the golf course – so a very popular golf shoe.

Women’s Golf Shoe Buying Guide.

These are some areas and points to consider when buying a pair of shoes for golf.

1. Comfort

Think about whether you will be walking a flat golf course, a hilly golf course or riding in a golf cart mostly.

If you are walking a golf course, especially if it is a long or hilly course, finding the right golf shoes is so very important. In this case, you will want to find golf shoes that are pretty much made for walking and are super comfortable. The last thing you want is to be uncomfortable for 4-5 hours or in agony.

However, if you will mostly be riding in a cart, then you won’t be walking as much. Which means you can look at other options of golf shoes.

2. Weather Protection

Do you need water resistant or waterproof shoes?

Water resistant golf shoes will keep your feet fairly dry in dewy grass and some wetness on the course.

Be careful of the mesh sneaker-style golf shoes as they may not be very weather protective since they are made of fabric and not leather/synthetic leather. However, some of the new fabrics out there are increasingly using water resistant technologies that are pretty amazing.

Having a rubber or synthetic strip along the toe may help with morning dew and smaller amounts of water on the course.

Waterproof golf shoes will keep your feet dry in rainy and wetter conditions. There are golf shoes that come with a 1 or 2-year waterproof guarantee with your purchase so if this is something that is really important to you, it may be worthwhile looking into.

3. Budget and Price

The many different options of golf shoes on the market today, comes with every price range as well.

As with fashion and apparel in any industry, you can find practically anything you need at the right price. A high-quality shoe at a higher price may last many years and provide everything you need.

A lower-priced golf shoe that provides the comfort you need may not last as many years, but since it was priced lower, you can purchase another pair or even several pairs in different colors for a fraction of the higher-priced shoes.

4. Fashion and Style

Biion Women's Golf Shoes

These Biion Footwear Women’s Golf Shoes seem to be all the rage this year. I like to think of them as Crocs meets golf shoes. They are so fun, and I always get tons of compliments and questions about them. Some people don’t wear socks with them, but I like to wear little footie socks. These are great to wear especially if you will be out for a casual round of golf and riding in a cart. And they have tons of different patterns, styles and colors!

For a 20% discount on your whole order, be sure to use code LYNNCOTTER at checkout.

I golfed with a woman in a local charity tournament and she had the cutest little golf flats or golf moccasins. I asked if they were golf shoes and she told me they were and that she only wears them when she doesn’t have to walk the hilly course like the one we were playing. I found them online here and they are so cute! Marc Joseph Moccasin Golf Shoes

What is so great is you can find so many fun and unique fashionable ladies’ shoes that are also golf shoes. Just like with women’s golf clothes and apparel, there are many more options available than ever before. Golf brands are finally becoming much more creative and fun.

Last year, I could not stop thinking about these particular Gfore golf shoes that I saw in our Pro Shop and ended up splurging on them (used some of my tournament and league winnings).

Women's Golf Shoes

They are a name brand and yes, they are fashionable and stylish golf shoes. I only wear them when I am riding in a cart, or playing in fun golf events and charity tournaments.

But, they look great and I love the fashion statement these golf shoes make. I think my pair was a past year’s model, but here is a link to a cute pair of gFore Gallivanter Women’s Golf Shoes in silver, which are also really unique and stylish.

5. Foot Issues

If you have foot issues, it is extremely important to find the right shoes since you will be wearing them for 4-5 hours and possibly walking.

My feet were fine until I developed an Achilles heel issue – mostly in one particular foot. So, now I need to wear golfing shoes that help alleviate that pain and that I can still walk and golf in for 18 holes.

Luckily I found a few different brands that meet my needs. From research and talking to others, I found that having a mesh or fabric backing was the key.

My husband, on the other hand, has high arches and a bit of plantar fasciitis, so he needs golf shoes that help support his arches and has used inserts as well.

6. Spikes versus Spikeless

The metal spikes that I grew up playing with were crazy strong and could ruin hardwood floors in clubhouses and golf course greens.

These were officially banned by golf courses around the late 1990’s due mostly to damage to the greens. There are some Tour golfers that still play in metal spikes most likely because of the traction and groundedness they provide.

Spikeless golf shoes aren’t flat and smooth. They usually come with some of kind of small plastic grippers or nubs that will help you grip the ground, but they won’t provide as much traction as actual plastic soft spikes.

The new plastic soft spikes are a cross between the old metal spikes and spikeless golf shoes soles. Maybe you need more traction for walking up and down slippery fairways and terrain or need extra traction in your golf swing. These soft spikes provide just that for the recreational golfer or amateur player.

7. Leather, Synthetic Leather and Mesh or Fabric

I have many golf friends who have been golfing for years. Their go-to is the traditional leather golf shoe and they love them. These have been around since the early 1900s. They are high quality with genuine leather, are usually waterproof, and will stand the test of time. The only downside with the hard leather is that they tend to be stiff and inflexible and need some time to wear in. But people still love them.

The mesh and fabric-covered shoes provide a soft and flexible golf shoe that provides some serious comfort on the golf course. But, the downside is that they typically lack in weather protection and keeping your feet fully dry on wet rainy days.

Think about the temperatures outside as well. Leather or synthetic leather shoes may not be as breathable in hot weather. Whereas a mesh or fabric-covered shoe may be better at keeping your feet cooler. Yet, on a colder raw day in the Fall or Winter, it might be better to have the leather shoes to keep your feet warmer.

New softer leathers, synthetic leather and materials are being developed with new technologies every year, which is really exciting. Shoe manufacturers and designers are coming out with golf shoes that combine all these different characteristics and needs from weather protection, comfort, style, and overall performance.
