Should I Buy a Golf Club Set or Separate Golf Clubs?
At this point, you have now probably played a good amount or have a good feel of your golf swing. My first set of clubs were my grandmother’s and so the first clubs I bought after about a year of playing was a golf club set that came with everything I needed to play golf especially for out on the course.
So here are a few questions for you.
Do you have hand me down golf clubs right now and are you looking to upgrade? If so, I would consider a golf club set because it will come with everything you need instead of having to buy each club separately.
Do you have a beginner set that you now want to upgrade? Here is where you can go either way. For example, if you like the ease of buying everything together, the golf club sets for intermediate or more advanced players come with a more robust offering like a fuller set and usually higher quality than a less expensive starter golf set.
But, let’s say you like a few of the clubs you already have in your current bag. Maybe you don’t want to replace your full set. There’s nothing wrong with adding or replacing a few clubs in your current golf bag. I do this all the time, just adding a new something here and there :). Just know that the pricing is a lot higher for clubs bought separately.
That brings me to the next question. What is your budget? Buying a complete golf set can be an affordable way to go versus purchasing golf clubs separately. A friend of mine who is a very good golfer, plays with men’s golf clubs because she has the height and likes the feel of a steel shaft. She knows her game and what works for her through her years of playing.
I also know of many women that use senior men’s clubs because though the shaft is graphite like a women’s golf club, it is made with a stiffer shaft. These can be good for women who might have a stronger or faster swing speed and can generate a good amount of power.
Do I Need to Get Fitted Before Purchasing a New Set of Golf Clubs?
Getting fitted for golf clubs these days has become very important. Mostly for the reasons I stated above. With so much new technology, golf clubs can be customized to your particular swing, physical attributes, and feel.
When you get fitted for clubs, a club-fitter will take everything into consideration like how you swing the club, your height, your power as well as swing paths, swing speed, ball speed, trajectories, all of this.
If you are newer to golf, it might not be as important. If you are interested in getting a fitting there are different kinds of golf club fitters out there. If you are looking at a golf club set and want to be fitted, you will most likely be fitted at the store that sells the set. They will let you try out the clubs and will use technology that measures and takes these attributes into consideration.
