Final Recommendation on Women’s Golf Clubs for Beginners

Now that you have read through this golf club set buying guide for beginners, hopefully I have made it a little easier to select and buy your new set of golf clubs.

It really does come down to your needs and what you will be using the clubs for, which can help you pare down what type of club set you should buy.

For the beginner golfer that wants quality clubs that will last as they play more and become a more experienced golfer, my favorite pick is the Callaway Women’s Strata Ultimate Golf Set.

This golf club set is great for novices or beginners and intermediate players. It’s my favorite because the Callaway brand is a top brand in the industry with an amazing reputation for their golf clubs and equipment.

I also really like the club selection they provide as it is robust enough for beginners but can be used as you improve and play more.

And lastly, depending on what kind of golf bag you need, this is one that comes with a golf stand, so you can walk and carry your golf clubs during a round, or you can place it on a pushcart or riding cart.

Buying Guide – Women’s Golf Cubs Sets for Beginners

FAQ’s for Purchasing New Beginner Golf Clubs.

Should I Buy a Golf Club Starter Set or Separate Golf Clubs?

Good question.  This seems so basic but there are many different types of golf clubs, not to mention all the different brands.  As a new golfer, my recommendation is to start out with a GOLF CLUB SET that comes with at a minimum the basic clubs need to play.  These sets usually come with a driver, woods or hybrids, irons, wedges, a putter and a golf bag.  It makes it a whole lot easier than if you had to purchase all these clubs separately.  And pricing wise, you’ll get a much better deal buying a set than separate clubs.  Each one of these golf clubs on their own can cost at least a couple hundred dollars each if bought separately.

Is There a Difference in Men’s and Women’s Golf Clubs?

Yes.  Manufacturers and brands design clubs with different types of golfers in mind.  This can be based on gender, age, experience, height, swing type, strength, and many other different factors.  As you play more and become a more experienced golfer, you will figure out if you need something more specific to your needs.

Luckily, club manufacturers make it easy and simple to buy the golf clubs suited to your experience level.  That is not to say that you have to stick with a specific club set.  A friend of mine who is a very good golfer, plays with men’s golf clubs because she has the height and likes the feel of a steel shaft.  She knows her game and what works for her through her years of playing.

There are some known differences between mens and womens golf clubs.  Women’s golf clubs tend to be shorter to compensate for our shorter frames and tend to have graphite shafts.  These shafts are designed to provide more forgiveness and power in our golf shots.

Do I Need to Get Fitted Before Buying a New Set of Beginner Golf Clubs?

Getting fitted for golf clubs these days has become very important.  Mostly for the reasons I stated above. With so much new technology, golf clubs can be customized to your particular swing, physical attributes, and feel.

When you get fitted for clubs, a club-fitter will take everything into consideration like how you swing the club, your height, your power as well as swing paths, swing speed, ball speed, trajectories, all of this.

As someone new to golf, much of this hasn’t been developed yet.  Honestly, I don’t think it is as important in the beginning when you are just starting out in golf.

Here’s why.

Anyone that is new to golf has not developed their swing and is still learning. There is a steep learning curve with golf and your swing can change a lot when you are just starting out.  Also, some beginner golfers might just need a standard issue set of golf clubs that they can use to play with their friends or partners when they go to an indoor golf facility, a driving range, for lessons, for a round of golf or a corporate outing.  Sometimes it might not make sense to get into all the technical specifications of golf club equipment when all you need is something to get you into the game.

How Do I Choose Between the Different Golf Club Sets As Someone New to Golf?

Here’s what you need to consider when looking to buy a standard issued or out of the box set of golf clubs.

  • Price.  This is probably one of the biggest factors to look at when you are purchasing a new set of golf clubs.  Think about your budget.  The prices for beginner golf sets are a fairly big range.  You do tend to get what you pay for with these golf club sets in terms of quality and longevity. Middle of the road pricing can be a good starting point and then see what you do or don’t need.
  • What’s Included.  What golf clubs should a women carry in her golf bag to play a round of golf? This is a common question I get. Make sure the golf club set you purchase is complete with all the necessities that you will need.  At a minimum, the golf set should include a driver, a wood or hybrid for the fairway, a couple of irons, a wedge, a putter and a golf bag.
  • Bag Type.  Think about whether you will be walking the course and carrying the bag on your shoulders, using a pushcart, or riding in a golf cart or all of the above.  There are different types of bags that meet these needs.
  • Customized Options.  These might include whether you need a right-handed or left-handed golf set.  Some golf club sets come in different sizes depending on how tall you are – usually petite, standard/regular, or tall.  Be sure to look to see if these options are offered if you need them.
  • Shafts.  The majority of women’s golf clubs today use a lightweight graphite shaft which can help with providing more distance, better contact, and ease in swinging the golf club.  If you are looking for a stronger graphite shaft or a steel shaft, you can also look at using senior men’s or men’s clubs.  Many senior men’s clubs are made with a slightly stiffer graphite shaft.  The majority of standard men’s clubs use a steel shaft which is much more rigid and is good for a powerful or stronger swing.
  • Brand – there are some very well known top golf brands that offer a good selection of starter golf club sets.  There are also manufacturers that just specialize in the new golfer market and meet the needs of many of these golfers.  I think here it depends on what you are looking for.  I talk about this more below.

How Long Will I Keep A Starter Golf Club Set For?

This depends on when you will want to upgrade.  I am a bit embarrassed to say this, but I kept my first golf club set for at least 10 years. I had purchased a good quality name brand set for a bit more money and they lasted for a long time.

When I started golf in my early twenties, I golfed pretty regularly. Once we started a family, well you know how that goes. Golf was not played as often as I would have liked but my clubs were still in good condition and there was no need for an upgrade.

Once I was able to get back out and play after the children were older was when I finally bought a new set.  Some golfers will upgrade after several years, depending on the initial investment made on the beginner set.  Once they become more experienced and play a lot more, they may have a personal desire to add or upgrade the clubs.

I have friends who have upgraded their whole set and friends that just keep adding or replacing certain clubs in their golf bag.

Good Luck!

I wish you the best of luck on your journey in learning this amazing game. It has provided much enjoyment for me over the years and and I hope it does for you too.

What is the maximum number of golf clubs a golfer can carry in their bag?

In the game of golf, there are many rules that players must follow. With regard to golf clubs, there is a maximum number of 14 clubs that one can carry and use during their round. According to the USGA, the governing body of the game of golf, you can carry up to 14 clubs.

How Many Golf Clubs in a Golf Bag?

What is the minimum number of golf clubs required?

There is no minimum number of golf clubs allowed or required.

Do I have to carry 14 golf clubs in my bag?

No, not at all. Sometimes I carry a much smaller number in my bag and it is a lot less weight.

If you are playing a round, you may want to carry at least a putter, a wedge, an iron, a hybrid or wood, and a driver. This will help you hit shots from all the different areas of the golf course.

I have played in a few fun casual tournaments where the format only allows you to bring 5 clubs. The first time I played in this, I was a little anxious not having all my other clubs. I did just fine and scored similarly to my usual game. It was eye-opening and made me think that maybe I don’t need all 14 clubs all the time.

What golf clubs should I carry in golf?

Many golf club sets come with a great combination of clubs. The different types of clubs include:

  • Driver
  • Woods
  • Hybrids
  • irons
  • Wedges
  • Putter

Golfers will want to include a combination of these different types of clubs in their golf bags. I tend to like hybrids more than lower numbered irons, so my bag consists of a Driver, a 3 & 5 wood, a 4, 5, 6 hybrid, a 7, 8, 9 iron, a few different wedges, and a putter. I sometimes will take some of the hybrids out and replace them with irons but otherwise, it is a good mix for me. I end up somewhere around 12 – 14 clubs.

What clubs should I carry in my golf bag as a beginner?

If you are a beginner just starting out, you do not need to carry all 14 clubs. Many beginner sets come with 9 – 12 clubs, which is more than enough. A nice combination of clubs and ones that you have learned to hit well is a good way to go.

Starting with a full 14 club set is fine, but just remember that you are going to need to learn how to hit all 14 clubs and that can become very overwhelming. In addition to the fact that you then need to choose from all 14 golf clubs which one to hit each time when you are on the golf course.

Can you add clubs, replace, or take clubs out of your bag during an official round?

There is a lot of information on this and the rules have actually changed within the last several years. In the general spirit of the game, you want to start with the same clubs that you started the round with. Having said that, with the new golf rules in 2019, you can add clubs in your bag as long as you are not over the 14 club limit. You can also take any out of your bag.

Where it gets trickier is replacing clubs. Replacing a club can only occur “If a player’s club is damaged during the round by an outside influence or natural forces or by any person other than the player or his or her caddie“. If you, yourself damaged a club or lost a club during a round, you are not allowed to replace it. However with the new rules, you can try to fix the damaged club and continue to play with it during the round.

Can you borrow your friend’s club and test it out or share their club?

Again, officially no. Not in a tournament format. Informally and during a casual round, of course! Have at it, maybe you’ll find a new club you like.

Are there restrictions or rules that golf clubs need to conform to?

Yes, there is an entire section in the USGA rules on golf clubs, Rule 4.1.

For example, one of the rules states that “The overall length of the club must be at least 18 inches (0.457m) and, except for putters, must not exceed 48 inches (1.219m).” And there are rules for adjustability and degrees of loft and angles. The thing that comes to mind for me is I guess we can’t officially play golf like in Adam Sandler’s Happy Gilmore using rakes and pool sticks on the putting green.

I used to use a wedge called a chipper. I loved it as I could swing the club like a putter but it would give the ball some lift, which was so useful around the greens. Before I played in my league tournaments, I had to make sure it conformed to the USGA rules, just in case. I was happy that it did and still use it from time to time now.

How much is these rules actually enforced or followed?

In tournaments, these rules are typically enforced. I try to follow them because breaking them may result in the loss of a hole or disqualification of the tournament. And who would want that? So, I just try to follow as best as I can.

If you are playing a casual or social round, these rules are typically not enforced. Maybe if there is a huge wager going on, but no one I have ever played with has cared how many clubs I was playing with. During league play, I do try to count my own clubs when I get my bag ready for the round as I do tend to switch clubs in and out during practice sessions and casual rounds.

Interested in Using a Golf Net for the Home?

Over the years, I have found that one of the best ways to improve in golf is to practice and to keep swinging the club.  Building a repeatable swing for more consistency is key to the golf game.

Yet, it is harder to do than one might think.  Why?

Because you have to find a place to practice.  And most of us are busy with life.  I find it hard to get to the practice range or golf course several times a week or regularly.  And either a bucket of balls or the cost of an indoor simulator can start to add up each time you head out to practice.

Practicing at home can be a great way to practice and can save you tons of money as well. Here’s a comprehensive list of golf training gadgets and equipment that you can use in your backyard or in the home.

Recently, I decided that I wanted to put up a golf net in my backyard.

The Convenience and Cost Savings of Using a Golf Practice Net

The practice range is not too far from my house, but during the winter, it closes down and the next closest hitting facility is about 25 to 30 minutes away and fairly pricey. Think about each time you have to purchase a $10 bucket of balls or pay the fee per hour at the indoor simulator. Several times a week or even once a week can become expensive.

My golf instructor mentioned the benefits of using a golf net at home and how much more practice I could get in by not having to drive each way to the range. And, if I have 20 minutes or even 10 minutes to spare, I could easily head to my home golf net and get some practice in. So very convenient.

Personal Review of the Rukket Sports Haack Golf Net Pro

After a good amount of research on the internet and on social media, I landed on Rukket Sports and their Haack Golf Net Pro.  I liked the reviews and the fact that they are a very reputable company that is known for quality sports equipment in areas such as golf, baseball, lacrosse, and soccer.

Shipment and Delivery

After ordering my Rukket golf net, a box was delivered to my doorstep without any issues within four days.  All of the parts came in a long somewhat heavy sturdy box.  And there were no problems, defects, or missing parts.

Rukket Golf Net Setup and Assembly

Rukket Golf Net Out of the Box

The metal frame came in several different pieces.  The hardest part was figuring out which pieces click into each other.  No screwdrivers or hex wrenches were needed.  The netting came neatly packaged and folded up along with a nylon carrying bag and a complimentary box of foam golf balls.

Rukket Golf Net Haack pro Assembly

As this was our first time assembling this, it took us about 30 minutes to set up.

Once out of the box, it did seem a little confusing.  We downloaded the Rukket Sports app as the instruction sheet told us to do.

Rukket Golf Net Review

The app provided an infographic that showed small pictures of what to do.  It didn’t show too much detail and was very basic.

However, we headed to YouTube and found a bunch of videos explaining how to set it up.  Once we watched these, it was fairly easy to assemble and not much to it.

Rukket Golf Net Assembly

Once the frame was connected, all we had to do was attach the netting which came with easily attachable loops and sleeves which were extremely easy and efficient.

Happy Helper Assembling My New Rukket Golf Hitting Net
My helper putting together the Rukket golf hitting net!

Sturdiness and Durability

The Haack Net Pro is solid and sturdy.  The metal frame makes up the base and two flexible vertical shafts hold up the net.  There are four stakes or anchors that plug right into the ground for extra stability.

At first, I used the foam golf balls that came with the golf net.  And then I started to hit with my normal real golf balls with no problems.  The net remained as sturdy as ever.

Rukket Golf Hitting Net
Taking my first hits into the net. Hit the bullseye – felt good!

Just this month, we had a storm blow through with 60 mph wind gusts.  I did notice that the golf net blew down during the beginning of the storm.  We ended up keeping it down and using the stakes to anchor it from blowing away (just in case).   Since it sits right outside my kitchen window, it was also less of an eyesore this way. The next day after the storm blew through, the net was in great condition and stayed put.  And it was easy to raise back up to full height with one person.

Now, when not in use, I just lay it down on its back. We live near a forest and sometimes I worry about wild animals running through it or getting stuck in it at night.

Portability

If you need to move this golf net by yourself, it can be a bit of a challenge – mostly due to its size.  It is 9’ x 7’ x 3’.  With 2 people though, the net is light and easy to move around.

Rukket Golf Net Side View & Portability

We had a rather large snowstorm in the forecast and I didn’t want to keep the net up given the blustery winds and that it might be stuck in its space in the backyard all winter if the snow sticks around. It took us 5 minutes to disassemble the Rukket golf net, and now that we know how to reassemble, it’ll most likely take us 5 – 10 minutes to put it back up.

Enhanced Golf Net Target

Rukket Golf Net Target
Enhanced Target – Attachable/Detachable with Tri-Fold Hitting Mat

The newest addition to the Haack Golf Net Pro is the hitting target.  It is made of a light shiny nylon material and is easily attachable/detachable. I do like having it attached as I can see immediately if I am veering right or left.

However, I did notice that the noise is a little on the loud side when you hit the target. A loud smacking sound, which is definitely satisfying to hear when you hit it. My neighbors and family members may not like it, on the other hand, especially if I want to avoid annoying them.

Using a Golf Practice Mat and Net

Because the ground tends to be frozen in the winter and to help protect our lawn from massive divots, I opted to use the Rukket Sports Tri-Fold Golf Mat, which is a great accessory to have. It uses artificial turf and has 3 different hitting surfaces or heights of turf.

Pros & Cons to the Rukket Golf Net

Pros

  • Fairly easy to assemble and take down
  • The look and feel
  • Durable and sturdy
  • Target feature which is attachable or detachable
  • Great quality brand

Cons

  • The noise of the target material
  • Portability for 1 person
  • Price

Final Thoughts and Overall Recommendation

I am extremely happy with my decision to go with the Rukket Sports Haack Golf Net Pro and have been using it most days. Working on my game has become a lot easier and super convenient having a net to hit into in my backyard. What I have found is that even when I have 10 minutes, I can go out and hit a few balls and not have to drive to a practice facility. Nor do I need to spend money each time I want to practice.

I’m actually wondering why it took me so long to put a net up.  So, if you are thinking about it, don’t wait! It makes practice easier and convenient.

To find the Rukket Sports Haack Golf Net Pro, you can find it at:

Rukket Sports or on Amazon. You will find a great selection of nets as well as mats and other training gadgets and tools.

Happy Practicing!

Golf Gadgets, Training Aids and Backyard Golf Practice When You Can’t Get To The Golf Course

Make use of your time at home and improve your golf game.  There are many activities, drills, and even games that you can practice or play in your living room or backyard.

And while there are amazing new golf training aids and gadgets available on the market today, there are also many ways to be creative with what you already have at home.

To get you started, here is a list of my favorite Golf Training Aids For the Home

Practice These Key Golf Areas At Home

Putting

Putting is one of the best ways to improve your golf game.

They say “putt for dough” for a reason.

And the great thing about putting practice indoors is this.

  • It doesn’t take up that much room.
  • You can do it anytime.
  • All you need is a putter, something to putt on and a target.

Find a Place to Putt

Any flooring surface inside your home.  Carpet, kitchen floor, hardwood floor or a putting mat.  This is a great way to figure out speed and roll on any surface.

2nd – Find  a Target

A cup laid sideways is the simplest.

Putting at Home Into A Cup

You can also use a metal ball mark or quarter which makes it really challenging because it is so small.

I also like flat rubber jar openers, about 4 inches in diameter (same size as a golf hole).   Jar Openers.

When you are sitting around your living room watching TV or on your electronics, or need a small break, every now and then get up and roll some putts in – guess what?  That counts as practice and can have a huge effect on your score!

Putting Drills and Games at Home

  1. Tee Bowling – Set up 10 tees in a small triangle shape – like bowling pins.  That is your target and the object is to knock all tees over for a strike.  You can score like you do in bowling or keep it simple.
  2. 5 in a Row – I learned this recently from my local golf pro during a putting lesson.  Start at 3 feet away, make 5 putts before moving back a couple of feet.  Repeat this until you miss.  Once you miss, start back at 3 feet away.  This puts pressure and makes for lots of putting practice.

Best Putting Practice Training Accessories

Here is a list of the best putting training aids and gadgets for the home or office that are available.

Putt Out Putt Trainer

Last year, my husband surprised us with this putt trainer.  My putting improved exponentially after using this.

What I especially like is that it is designed to tell you the speed of your putt.  After you roll it in, and it rolls back to you, that is the distance it would have rolled past the hole.

It also is foldable so you can take it with you anywhere – easier to practice those putts!

Putt Out Pro Golf Putting Mat

The same company designed a putting mat with lines that can help keep your putts straight and accurate.

Perfect Practice Putting Mat

Perfect Practice Putting Mat Review

Or if, you don’t want to purchase a putting mat plus a putt trainer, you can buy the Perfect Practice Putting Mat all in one. Use discount code LYNNLINKS15 for 15% off your entire order.  I just got this and use it year round.  It looks nice too for the home or office.  Also endorsed by Pro Golfer, Dustin Johnson.  For more detailed info, read my perfect practice putting mat full review.

Sometimes our eyes can deceive us and having these lines can dramatically help with the alignment of your putts.  Both these putting mats have distance markings and target points.

Putt Out Mirror System

The benefit of this training tool is getting instant feedback and knowledge of how you are actually hitting or striking the ball with your putter face.  This tool can have a big impact on your putting stroke.

PuttOut Pro Putting Gates

These are fun and useful putting drills you can do at home and setup wherever you want.  Use these PuttOut Gates to improve your alignment, line, and speed.  What I like about these is that they come in a pack of 3 different sizes which can add to the challenge.

Chipping Practice At Home

Chipping around the greens and pitching from within 50 yards is all about feel.

As golfers, this is also an integral part of the game where strokes can really add up.

It’s the worst feeling when you are just off the green and then shank or skull the next shot past the green.

Practice these shots at home in your backyard or even inside the house and increase your confidence with these shorter shots. (may want to use whiffle or foam balls inside though!)

As long as you have a target, you can practice these shots in your yard, in an old field or off of a basic turf mat.

Find a place to Practice Chipping

Inside Your Family Room, Basement.  Backyard, Ball Field or Park

2nd – Find a Target

This is important because you can practice these shots for muscle memory, but it is so much better if you have a target to aim at.  It also is so much more fun, otherwise it can get boring.  You can use just about anything:

  • painter’s bucket
  • regular bucket
  • chipping nets
  • cornhole game board
  • golf hole with flag

3rd – Find a type of Practice Ball

Depending on how much damage you can do inside or outside, decide whether you should be using a golf ball, whiffle ball, or foam ball.

Whiffle Balls

Foam Golf Balls

These are a good idea if there are windows, cars, people nearby or you are inside the house. I actually use these foam balls in my living room, chipping up and over the couch.

Chipping Games and Drills at Home:

Make a chipping game with your family.  My brother-in-law has a whole bunch of old golf wedges and breaks them out at backyard parties.  He has a little 5 hole course around the perimeter of his house using random landmarks and targets.   Feel free to keep score too like we do – everyone will have a blast!

Using a chipping mat, play cornhole with a cornhole game board using whiffle balls.  Or find one online like this BattleChip Game or Chippo Golf Game further below which is specifically for golf and comes with a mat and game board.

There are many creative ways to “practice” golf without having to head to the actual golf driving range or course.

Chipping Drills and Practice Accessories

GoSports Tri-Turf Golf  Mat

My husband loves his lawn and spends a good deal of time making it look really nice.  The last thing he wants is for me to make divots in our yard.  So, having a mat that you can use for chipping or hitting golf balls is really important.  This one has 3 different lengths of turf.

Practicing the Full Golf Swing In Your Backyard or In Your Home

We all love to practice our drives and fairway shots, at least I do!

As long as you have a backyard, basement, or available area that you can take a full swing, there are numerous ways to practice your golf swing around the house.

Muscle memory is important for any sport. This includes golf as well.

A couple of ways to practice the golf swing at home include:

Increasing swing speed

The Superspeed Training System is a proven way to increase distance off the tee and your fairway shots. Without even picking up an actual golf club, improvements such as increasing swing speed and swing tempo or rhythm can be worked on

I also read recently on Golf.com, who had a great suggestion using a broom to help increase your swing speed.  Looks like you need a broom, a pillow or a weighted blanket. Click here for the article.

Help with Golf Muscle Memory

Using the foam golf balls, you can practice inside or in your backyard without a golf net.  Even practicing with these lighter balls provides a great way to practice shots and muscle memory.

Golf Posture and Form

Videotape your swing and make sure your posture and form are where they should be.  You can also try practicing your swing in front of a mirror.  It’s funny how you can spot things when you see yourself in action.

Work on the Golf Grip

They say that there are 3 basic areas of importance in the golf swing.  Grip, Stance, Posture.  You can easily work on the grip anywhere.  Ben Hogan’s Book “Ben Hogan’s Five Lessons: The Modern Fundamentals of Golf” delves into this and so much more.  Even though this book was published years ago, golfers are still reading and referencing it today.

Golf Swing Training & Accessories for Home Practice

Galileo Golf  Net

This is a great net to have in your backyard or in your house if you have space.  I like the side netting and the depth of the net just in case any balls aren’t quite as straight as you’d like them to be.  I also like the large bullseye, for some reason, it is a great visual to have when hitting your golf shots.

Rukket Golf Net with Golf Mat

The Rukket Golf Net is a wonderful hitting net that I personally use at home.  And it is easy to assemble and desemble, and made from a quality brand and company known for their sports equipment training aids.  I have a more comprehensive review here.  It is a great way to practice at home, easy and convenient.

Orange Whip Trainer

Many golf course driving ranges have these training aids to help you warm up before your round of golf.  They also can provide help with your swing and improve rhythm and tempo, both very important components in golf.

Golf Fitness at Home

A strong body is needed for golf.   Golf practice is important, but so is golf fitness and keeping your body strong so you can play your best.

Having the ability to stay focused with enough stamina for the round will help bring more enjoyment to your game and provide a competitive advantage when needed.

Read my post here about being golf fit focusing on core and strength, the base of good fitness.  The great thing about these exercises is that they don’t need a lot of extra gym equipment.  Much of these exercises and movements can be done anywhere.

Creative Ways to Practice Golf

These ideas are just a small list of golf activities, practice, and training that can be done at home and how you can incorporate some fun in these activities.

These can be helpful when short on time, stuck at home, or can’t get to the practice range on a particular day.

I’d love to hear any other ideas for golf practice you can do in your house that you currently do or is helpful.

I’m sure there are some really interesting ones out there ;).

TaylorMade Golf Bag with Stand

The TaylorMade Golf Bag with Stand is a traditional golf bag that is perfect for carrying or pushing on a cart. With two handles at the top for easy handling, it is lightweight and smaller than a cart bag. For extra back support, it includes two shoulder straps that criss-cross so one shoulder isn’t carrying the entire weight and is more balanced when walk and carrying.

The golf bag comes with larger pockets on the side for items like a golf towel or a light jacket and has a small pocket for personals like money, credit cards, and other small items. There are front pockets for balls, tees, golf gloves, and other needed accessories. Several different color combinations are offered.

Vessel Golf Bag with Stand

Vessel is a high-quality manufacturer and brand of golf bags that is popular with tour players around the world. Their golf bags are designed with attention to detail and use fine luxury materials for their bags. This Vessel Golf Bag with Stand is made for those that want a golf stand and will carry their clubs on the course. The high tech golf bag has adjustable ergonomic straps that can be customized to one’s liking for added comfort and support.

It uses a special “rotator base technology” that helps keep the base on the ground for improved stability and balance. A magnetic accessories pocket is an additional feature that helps keep small personal items safe. The bag has 3 separate sections for clubs at the top.

Orlimar Golf Bag

Sometimes golfers may want to walk a golf course or head to the practice range without the hassle of bringing the entire golf bag or a full set of clubs. This Orlimar Golf Bag, sometimes referred to as a “pitch and putt bag” or a “Sunday bag”, is great for playing Par 3, Executive courses, 9 holes, or going to the practice range.

It holds about 6 – 7 clubs including the putter and has 1 pocket that can hold accessories such as balls, tees, ball markers, pencils, and a glove. The bag weighs less than 2 pounds and comes with a single shoulder strap as well as a stand to keep the clubs upright.

Women’s Golf Bags – Buying Guide and FAQ’s

With 14 clubs in the bag to carry in addition to all that’s needed on the course for a 2 – 4+ hour round, the golf bag is an important piece of your arsenal. Maybe it won’t provide you with pars all day long, but it can provide a level of comfort, enjoyment and some style to your game.

Depending on what you may need and are looking for, there is pretty much a golf bag for everyone. Golf bags have come a long way over the years and even more so in recent years. So many styles and levels of functionality are offered, which means so much to choose from.

Here are some frequently asked questions as well as factors to look at when purchasing a golf bag.

What Is The Difference Between a Golf Bag With a Stand and a Golf Cart Bag?

Let’s first look at the purpose of a golf cart bag versus a golf bag with a stand.

A golf “cart” bag is just that. Designed to be placed on a cart during a round of golf. Because of this, cart bags typically are larger and wider in size with many pockets that vary in size as well as separate sections on the top for each of your golf clubs.

A golf bag with a stand is designed for those who don’t want to lay their clubs on the ground when carrying. Like a kickstand on a bicycle, the stand helps prop up the golf bag when left alone. With two retractable legs that hold the golf bag upright at an angle, this allows for stability so the bag doesn’t tip over, and keeps the clubs and bag from lying flat on the ground.

Because these bags are designed with the purpose of being carried, they are typically smaller, lighter, and less bulky than a cart bag. These come with a single or double shoulder strap for added support when carrying the bag across the back.

Which Type of Golf Bag Should I Purchase?

It depends on whether you will be riding in a cart, pushing a cart, or carrying your golf clubs. If you are carrying your golf clubs, what kind of support do you need?

My parents live in a golf retirement community where they own a motorized electric golf cart and keep it in their garage. All golfers are required to use the golf carts on their home course. Since they rarely need to carry their golf clubs except on and off the golf cart, they both have large cart bags. Having a bag this size with lots of storage compartments and a place for each of their clubs is great to have as long as you don’t have to lift the bag very much. They are heavy!

My friend, on the other hand, walks and carries her golf clubs for 18 holes of golf. She uses a very lightweight women’s golf bag with a stand, and a double shoulder strap for added back support. She keeps her accessories to a minimum, so less pockets are needed as she doesn’t want to have to carry any unnecessary or extra weight.

If you use a push cart, you could actually go either way.

It depends on how bulky or how much extra weight you want to be pushing around on the course. I personally like to keep things light as I have a somewhat hilly course. Since I do a bit of walking and carry my golf clubs to and from the practice range, I need a ladies lightweight golf bag with a stand and double shoulder straps.

However, I have been thinking about purchasing a small Sunday bag like the one shown above to take a few clubs to the practice range.

What Other Factors Should I Consider When Purchasing a Golf Bag?

Here are a few other things to consider:

Pushcarts

If you plan to use a pushcart, make sure that the bag you purchase will fit on your pushcart. A big cart bag may actually be too big for the base of the push cart.

Also, think about how much weight you want to be pushing. Though you are pushing a cart, it is still expending energy. If you are playing on a flat course and it is an easy terrain, a bigger bag might be fine. However, if your terrain is quite hilly, you may want to think about the size and weight you will be pushing up the hills as well as holding the bag steady on the downhills.

Pockets

More and more golf bags are including a cooler compartment where you can keep a few drinks cool on a hot day. A very nice addition!

If you are going to be out on the golf course for a good 4 – 5 hours in the outside elements, you would be surprised by the number of accessories and needed items you might need.

Particularly if the weather is going to change while you are out there, it is important to bring extra layers and clothing to account for this. For example, if there are possible showers in the forecast, you’ll want to bring a rain jacket, umbrella, rain golf gloves and maybe even rain pants.

That right there takes up a lot of storage in one’s bag. Besides golf balls, tees, ball markers, repair tools, and golf gloves, you will need a place to store your wallet, phone, car keys, extra golf glove, sunscreen, water, beverages, and well you get the idea. There are a lot of extra items to bring and having different compartments or pockets can help keep these items organized, easy to find and access.

Ease of Use for Getting Clubs In and Out of a Bag

The main purpose of a golf bag is to hold your clubs.

A golfer can carry up to 14 clubs in their bag and some bags have separate dividers with is a compartment for each club. This is called a 15-way golf bag. Because of the space it takes up, these are usually cart bags. A carry bag or golf bag with a stand might vary from 3 to 7 separate sections.

If you don’t like the golf grips getting stuck on each other when pulling out a club or don’t like the clubs clanging against each other, you’ll want a separate compartment for each club, which would be a 15 – way golf bag with full length dividers.

Bag Style, Colors and Materials

You can have a lot of fun with your golf bag as there are so many styles, colors, patterns, and materials. The golf bag can be a reflection of your style or personality.

Do you want nylon, leather, or a performance material?

How about sleek, big and bold, or traditional?

Do you want flowers, polka dots, plaid, or block patterns?

Do you want blue, black, white, yellow, red, purple or a pink golf bag?

Yes, you can find just about anything. Have fun with this!

Monogramming or Personalization

Many golf bags show the name and logo of the brand. In addition to this, some golf bags have the option of adding customized monogramming, which is a nice feature. You’ll see this a lot with tour players as well as teaching professionals in the golf industry. If you want this added, check to see if the bag comes with this option.

Top Women’s Putter for 2021

Let’s talk about putters. Something as simple as a putter isn’t all that simple. That’s because there are many different styles of putters on the market.

I’ll take you through all the different types and what to look for when making a purchase.

The saying goes “drive for show, putt for dough”. As a golfer for many years, this is very true. Driving the ball off the tee is very important for many reasons, however, the putter accounts for the most shots made during a round of golf.

If you end up purchasing a set of golf clubs, putters are usually included. But, just like other clubs in the bag, you have the option of purchasing putters separately and can upgrade or change them up at any time.

Be sure to check out the Guide to Putters further below for a better understanding of the types and styles of putters and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s).

Here are the top recommendations on women’s putters for 2021.

Ping G LE 2 Anser Women’s Putter

Ping G LE 2 Anser Women's Putter

Though putters and golf club technology are incredibly different today, this original blade design is still being used by Ping as well as other large well-known brands. The Ping G LE 2 Anser Women’s Putter has a softer feel off the face at impact with it’s dual face technology. It is a versatile putter for most putter swing types.

Buying Guide to Women’s Putters

Putters are unique in their design and purpose in the golf game. Most brands carry a line of putters in their offerings. Some brands have a separate line just for their putters. This is seen in Callaway who makes the Odyssey Putters and Titleist, like their wedges, who use a designer specifically to create and craft some very high end putters.

I won’t go into a ton of detail here as that could be a very long post in itself, but I’ll go into the main features and differences that are important to factor in when purchasing a new putter.

What Are the Different styles of Putters and Why Are They Important?

Let’s look at the main features that make putters look different.

Putter Head Styles

The most traditional putter heads are known as “blades”. Though, they have been around for years, the most popular one was brought out in the 1960’s, which was the Ping Anser. 60 years later this line of putters still remains popular and has been a prototype for many other putter brands. The blade is simple in its design. It has a small head, is fairly basic, yet provides great feel and simplicity.

The other type of putter head that is very popular today is the “mallet” style. These tend to have larger sized heads and typically can help with alignment. The center of gravity is lower and deeper which helps to reduce spin and provides more forgiveness for mishits.

Putter Inserts and Face

The putter face is important because this is where the ball comes in contact with the putter. Since many putters are all about feel, you will either get a soft feel or a harder feel. One is not better as everyone has a different preference. Many putters will use a face insert and technology to help dampen or soften the point of contact with the ball. To help produce a better feel when putting.

Grips

Grips seem to be all the rage now. Mostly the larger fatter grips. You might be asking what the big deal is with these and should you be using them. I haven’t switched yet, but may do so in the near future.

What these larger grips do is provide a way to take the hands and the wrists out of the putting stroke. One bad habit I used to do was bend my wrists instead of using a nice pendulum stroke while putting.

To help take the bend out of the wrists and hands is to use these fatter larger grips. They are easy to switch out if you already have a putter. And new putters can be purchased with the larger grip already attached if so desired.

Other Technical Features for Putters

Balance

Without getting too detailed, there are actually many other features in a putter. If you are into these technical specifications, it is quite fascinating when you look more closely at all that can be customized.

For example, the type of balance for each putter includes what is called “face balanced” or “toe balanced”. Face balanced means that the center of gravity is fairly centered with where the shaft comes down to meet the putter head.

These are typically good for straighter putting strokes – ones that just go straight back and straight through.

If you have some arc in your putting stroke, it might be good to look into a toe balanced putter. What this means is that when you balance the putter shaft on your finger as in this video, the toe of the putter will point down to the ground.

Offset vs Center Shafted

When you are setting up for a putt and you look down at the putter, you’ll be able to see how offset your putter head is to the putter shaft. Some are center shafted, heel-shafted, or offset. Depending on how it is set, can have an effect on your stroke. Eye dominance and hand positioning can have an effect on the type of offset you may want.

Shaft Lengths

We talked a little bit about standard length putters for women versus men. Standard putters usually are available between 32″ – 36″ in length. Belly putters are usually much longer in length from 41″ – 46″. While they are still used today, it became illegal around 2016 to anchor them on the belly.

Putter Loft

Yes, putters even have loft. Not much though. The standard is between 2 – 4 degrees. Anything more than this will cause the ball to skip along the ground and noone wants that. 🙂

Is There a Difference in Men’s and Women’s Putters?

Yes and no. This one is hard to say. There are putters sold today that are specifically designed or say “women”. How they are different is mostly to do with the weight of the putter head and the length of the shaft. I’ve had both and I really can’t tell the difference.

The one I use now is a standard putter but I made sure I got the 33″ length so that it was the correct size for my 5’6″ height. If you look at standard putters, they typically will come standard in a 35″ shaft length. If you opt to go with a standard putter, just make sure the length is appropriate for you as you can choose the length at the time of purchase.

How Often Should I Change Out or Purchase a New Putter?

That is up to you and a very personal decision. I know golfers who like to change them up every other year, and I know golfers who have had the same putter for 15 years because it provides good results and they are so comfortable with it.

My preference is to get a new putter every several years because well, it’s fun and the new technology is so good and is much more forgiving. I do tend to stick with the same brand though.

I know and love the feel of my current putter. One that I have been using ever since I started playing golf. So I prefer to stick with the same brand and line if I can and just do an upgrade.

Golf Club Fitting Review – Learn What Is Involved

When I first started golfing in the mid-1990s, getting fitted for clubs was not what it is today. I don’t think I started to hear the term “club fitting” until the last decade. A custom fitting for golf clubs is now a very personalized experience becoming more popular even with amateurs and recreational golfers, not just the pros.

This year, I was in the market for a new set of golf clubs and thought it would be a good idea to get a custom fitting with a professional club fitter.

Just so you know my background or my perspective, I have been playing for over 25 years. These days I golf for fun socially as well as in a few competitive leagues at my club and in my region.  I am a mid handicapper, am constantly trying to improve my golf game, and may start to play in golf tournaments around my state.

One area that I hadn’t really focused on yet were the golf clubs in my bag, and I know I needed to given all the new technology.

My bag was comprised of a very mixed set of clubs that I had picked up over the years.

Anything that I liked, went in the bag.  Anything I didn’t, went out.  The current bag included everything from a Callaway driver, Cobra fairway woods, Callaway and Cobra hybrids, Nike irons, and wedges from Nike, Titleist, and Cleveland.

I knew these clubs very well and became very comfortable and attached to them over the years. I have not wanted to part ways because of this.

However, it was time for an upgrade.

I just needed to find the right clubs that would still feel comfortable and enhance my game.

Finding a Club Fitter

After doing a little research and asking around, I found a Master Club Fitter in my area. Jonathan Almeida, Director of Club Fitting with Harmon Golf in Rockland, MA. Harmon Golf is a facility that is well known for its high level focus on golf instruction and training.

Besides being an expert in his field and having years of experience fitting clubs for golfers, Jonathan has the distinction of being listed as a Golf Digest Top 100 Best Clubfitter in America.

To get the best fitting possible, I wanted to do this the right way and go with a highly regarded club fitter.

Scheduling The Club Fitting

Club Fitting Experience

Upon calling the facility, they inquired as to which clubs I was looking to replace. Was I looking at a specific club, a half bag or full bag?

I was looking for a full bag replacement but was open to keeping any clubs that were still in good shape and working well. I actually made it a point that I would keep a very open mind and not mention any of my biases with one club or brand.

For a full bag fitting, I was told it may take a good 2 hours. However, instead of scheduling a 2-hour session right away, they suggested it was best to start with a 1-hour session first and see where things were afterward.

Of course, my initial thought was “why not just schedule the full fitting in one session?”. It seemed strange they would want me to come back for multiple sessions instead of doing the whole fitting in one take.

Apparently, hitting balls over and over again in a club fitting can get tiring after an hour or so.

Note: They were right. When you schedule your club fitting, anything over 1 – 1.5 hours can get pretty tiring. The main reason is that you want to be fresh during the fitting. After about an hour and twenty minutes, my shots became sloppier and a bit erratic. I knew it was time to call it a day.

Golf Club Fitting Cost

The cost of a fitting will vary based on where you live. Some charge based on the session, some charge based on the number of clubs you’re looking to replace, and some charge by the hour. If you visit a golf store, many of these offer free fittings where you can test out clubs and get a fitting from one of reps. Fittings definitely vary widely depending on what you are looking for.

Golf Club Fitting Process

For the club fitting, I brought in my current set of golf clubs so they could assess what I was using. It was December and I was curious where we would be performing the fitting. I assumed it would be on an indoor simulator. But actually, it was in a largely enclosed room with 3 walls and open to the outside practice range (what they call “open-air”). With the heaters on, I was very comfortable without a coat.

Assessment

We first did an assessment on what my goals were for the fitting as well as my golf game and whether I had any issues or concerns.

Personally, my goal was to pick up some distance and improve accuracy with new clubs.

After this, we talked about my current set of clubs and then started a light warm up with a few comfortable short irons.

Driver Fitting

We started with the driver. And that’s when it got really fun. He had me hit some shots with my current driver and then gave me many different drivers and variations. He was switching out and changing different brands of clubheads, shaft lengths, shaft flexes, weights, shaft angles, grips, and loft. I was surprised at all the different variables and options that can be customized in a fitting.

Club Fitters at Harmon Golf

Interesting too was that though I liked the feel of a heavier club head, it actually didn’t make my drives any longer based on the weight.

We talked a lot about driver loft.  The loft on my current driver was fairly high and I always wondered if it was too high.  Factor in even more loft because when I set up to the driver, I lean to the right so that I am hitting up on the ball.

I had read that a higher loft was easier to hit and good for creating more distance for slower swing speeds.  This is correct to a point, but if your golf balls are going too high, you are losing distance up in the air.  He helped me find the best loft with the right driver to maximize my distance.

I ended up with a driver that was 3.5 degrees lower than my current driver! You have to be careful with this though because you really want more carry in the air versus roll, especially on damp or wet fairways.

Using a Trackman or launch monitor on all my shots, we looked at the spin rate, launch angle, swing speed, apex, and many other numbers. I was shown how they all factored in together to find the best clubs customized to my swing.

The best driver for my swing was a senior men’s shaft for flex, a little shorter in length as I am 5’6″ tall. The club shaft felt more solid and a little stiffer than the lighter women’s club.  The woman’s shaft was a little too light for my swing speed and had to catch up in the transition from the backswing.

Fairway Woods Fitting

I was excited to test out fairway woods. The Cobras I had were from the early 2000’s, which meant that yes, they were almost 20 years old. I loved them because I was comfortable hitting them and didn’t want to change for fear of not being able to hit them well, especially the 3 wood.

We talked a lot about the 3 wood and the purpose it will serve me. Too funny because as some of you also may experience, this club is my hardest club to hit consistently. Sometimes it’s good, many times not so good. But when it’s good, it gives me that added distance I need.

I tried out many different options. Again tweaking and changing out shaft flexes, club heads, and varying degrees of loft. After several different clubs, I connected extremely well and consistently with one particular 3 wood. It felt great hitting it and low and behold, I was able to get it up in the air with an amazing amount of loft and distance.

I fell in love with this club. Of course, I started dreaming of what I could do with it once out on the course…

Ok, getting too far ahead of myself. However, I was happy we found a 3 wood that I could hit well. I had the same result from the 5 wood – same brand.

We stopped the fitting at this point as I was getting tired. After about 1 hour and 15 minutes, my shots were getting sloppy and I wasn’t as fresh as when I started. And when you are looking at stats and numbers and using this to analyze, it was best to stop.

We scheduled the second session to work on irons.

Irons Fitting

The second session of the club fitting focused on irons. Though I carry about the same number of hybrids, we decided to focus on the irons first. I only carry an 8i and 9i, and 3 different wedges.

We tested 5 different iron brands with varying options again.  I ended up with a 7i, 8i, 9i, pitching wedge, and gap wedge. I added the 7 iron because surprisingly, I hit it well and found that it gave me 20 additional yards than my current 7 hybrid.

Yes, I was shocked.   This might be a game changer as I had somewhat given up on using mid irons, instead opting for hybrids. Now, I’ll have to think about whether to add a 6 iron as well and drop the 6 hybrid.

Happy With My New Setup

I am now very happy with my current bag setup. I have 8 new clubs that each give me about 15 – 20 yards more in distance than my previous clubs. I have gone out and played a few times with the new clubs and am still enjoying the distance and feel of these clubs.

I will likely return in a few months to assess my hybrids (6h, 5h, 4h) and check on the gapping that might be missing. Gapping refers to the yardages hit between clubs. In my case, I need to find clubs that cover the gapping between my new 7 iron and 5 wood.

I will look at adding a 6 iron or 6 hybrid and then try out different 5 and 4 hybrids (or keep the ones I currently have).

Takeaways From My Custom Fitting

Here are some great takeaways I liked about this particular club fitting and things to consider when selecting a club fitter.

  • I had many questions and Jonathan was patient in taking the time to answer them all.
  • We tried many different options, changing out anything that might make a difference – varying shafts, weighting, club heads, angles and lofts.
  • There was no bias towards one particular brand.
  • There was no hard sell on anything.
  • We had a very engaging dialogue mostly where he asked me a lot of questions about how I liked the feel, the look, the distance I was getting, the accuracy, and then we would look at the stats together.
  • We used brand new premium ProV1 golf balls to see how I would hit them with the selected clubs. After striking a few balls, I maxed out with a few of my personal bests in distance and accuracy.
  • The hitting area was covered, heated, and in an enclosed room, yet I was hitting out into an open air driving range. Jonathan stressed “the importance of seeing ball flight while getting fit, especially for better players”.
  • All the analysis was done using a high-end Trackman monitor.

I was very happy with my club fitting experience and recommend it for anyone looking to upgrade their clubs and improve their game. There is so much new technology and customization out there that it just makes sense.

Top Push Carts for Golf

Push carts are one of the best conveniences in golf besides riding in a motorized cart. Instead of having to lug a full set of golf clubs on your back, we can push our clubs along while walking and getting some great exercise.

When I first started golf, there were only pull carts which all first had 2 wheels and then a 3rd wheel was added years later. Golfers would pull the bag with one arm behind them. Today, most golfers push their cart in front of them from hole to hole. And now there are a great many different options to choose from like 3 or 4 wheels, swivel or stationary wheels, weight and functionality, motorized or not, and lot of fun colors.

Here, I am listing out a quick list of the Top Recommended Golf Push Carts. Scroll further down for a helpful Buyer’s Guide on Push Golf Carts. This includes some of the important features to think about when selecting and purchasing a push cart for golf.

List of Top Recommended Push Carts for Golf

Descriptions With Review of Best Push Golf Carts

Clicgear Golf Push Cart

The Clicgear Golf Push Cart keeps improving upon a great push cart. My original Clicgear is going on 7 years now and is still going strong. This push cart is extremely durable and is made with aluminum tubing which makes it hardy but light enough to push, as well as airless tires that are great for most kinds of terrain on a golf course. For storage, Clicgear provides a medium-sized net, right below the dashboard console. This console which is located near the main pushing handle can hold your immediate necessities like extra golf balls, pencil, marker, tees, and scorecard. The brake is controlled by the hands not the feet.

Half a dozen accessories are available to order as extras if you need them. Items such as a seat, a cooler bag, a sand bottle, and an umbrella mount that adjusts at an angle. The push cart folds down to a relatively small size. The folding/unfolding process is a bit complex the first few times, but once you know how to do it, it gets easier. This push cart comes in many different color options – the most offered.

Though push carts are becoming more and more lightweight, this Clicgear model is one of the heavier carts weighing 21 pounds. However, it is a workhorse and is sturdy.

Clicgear Rovik Push Cart

Clicgear offers several different push cart models, some of which come with 3 wheels, 4 wheels, or swivel wheels. The Clicgear Rovik Push Cart is a 3 wheel push cart with a front wheel that swivels. The swivel wheel helps maneuver the push cart on flat surfaces managing turns with ease instead of having to lift the front wheel up off the ground. This swivel wheel can be locked in place to provide stability on uneven terrain.

Other differences between the standard Clicgear model and the Rovic include the following:

  • The Rovik doesn’t have a storage net, but the console is larger.
  • The Rovik is smaller and lighter, weighing 17 pounds.
  • Instead of a hand brake, the Rovik has a foot brake.
  • Extra accessories are offered, however, some are specific and custom to the Rovik.
  • The Rovik offers a smaller selection of colors.

Sun Mountain Golf Push Cart

The Sun Mountain Golf Push Cart is a lighter push cart with 3 wheels. This popular model is known for lightness and functionality as it weighs 18 pounds. What I like about this cart is that there are two storage baskets – a larger one to carry clothing like a jacket and a smaller one to carry extra golf balls, a snack, or a golf glove. The handle and console allow the user to adjust the angle, which helps with ergonomics and individual preferences. Also, includes separate holders for a cell phone, water bottle, and umbrella. Extra accessories that you can purchase include a seat and a sand/seed bottle holder.

The cart itself fits the majority of different-sized golf bags whether they are cart or carry bags. The older versions of this Sun Mountain golf cart used inflatable tires, however, the more recent models use harder plastic wheels that won’t deflate or pop. This cart folds and is easy to store. It is not as small or compact as others on the market, but is easy to fold. One bonus is that you don’t need to take the golf bag off the cart each time it is folded and unfolded.

Bag Boy Nitron Golf Push Cart

The Bag Boy Nitron Golf Push Cart weighs 16.5 pounds and is very compact when folded. It is known for being easy and fast to fold and unfold especially compared to other more complex folding push carts. The parking brake is a hand brake versus a foot brake. The console features a solid, easy to access beverage holder, cell phone holder as well as space for the scorecard and golf balls. The storage bag is small to medium and is located under the handle and console. There are also half a dozen standard color options.

One thing to keep in mind with this bag is that if you don’t have a Bag Boy golf bag, it might not fit as perfectly on the cart as it uses a “Top-Loc” technology that locks in a Bag Boy bag without any straps.

Caddytek Golf Push Cart

The Caddytek Golf Push Cart is a sturdy, affordable push cart. It is strong and stable with an aluminum frame and weighs 18 pounds. The cart folds up into a small compact design. The wheels are built to work on most golf course terrains and make it easy to push. The bag also comes with an insulated basket that helps keep beverages or snacks cool. It also comes with an adjustable handle and console, as well as a small netted basket to hold golf balls, ball markers and glove. Includes an umbrella and drink holder. Different color options are available.

One thing to note is that the front wheel is off to the side a bit, compared to other carts where the wheel is in front of the bag.

Buyer’s Guide to Golf Push Carts

When it comes to push golf carts, every year they come out with improved models, extra accessories, new styles, and now different color combinations. So much to choose from.

Let’s look at the main features you may want to think about when figuring out what golf cart may be best for you.

Price or Budget

Price can be a big factor, especially these days as we are finding that push carts are in high demand and low in supply. I am finding that the pricing can vary wildly. That may change in time when supply gets back to normal.

One thing to note about price is that quality does factor in. Think about the number of times you will be playing. Maybe you play 4 days a week and will most likely be walking and using a push cart. In this case, you probably will want to go with a sturdy, reliable, and quality-made push cart that will be able to perform over and over for you. My Clicgear is going on 7 years now and I use it about 4 – 5 days a week! It’s still going strong.

Accessories

What accessories do you need with your golf cart? Many come with the standard umbrella and drink holder as well as a console and basket. A few others are now adding cell phone holders and more storage.

Additional components are also offered at a separate price or add-on, which include items such as wheel covers (above), umbrella angler, mittens for cold weather, cooler bags, and travel covers. It is nice to be able to add on additional accessories you may need now or in the future.

Seat

The attachable seat on a push cart is a much-needed accessory for some as it allows you to rest and take a load off the legs or back during the round. Walking and pushing a cart for 2 – 5 hours can be tiring. Add in hills and it can be exhausting. A few carts like the Clicgear above have this added extra seat accessory which attaches right to the cart.

Terrain – Wheels and Brakes

Another important aspect is the type of terrain or golf course landscape you will be playing.

Is your course flat or hilly? Does it have low cut rough or is there fescue everywhere with rocky terrain? Do you want a swivel wheel so you can turn and maneuver the cart easily? Do you want 3 or 4 wheels? 3 is standard and great for uneven terrain. 4 wheels may give you more stability on a flatter course.

With regards to brakes, the biggest key is whether you want a foot brake or a hand brake. I personally like a hand brake, but a foot brake is good too. Mostly it is a personal preference.

Weight

Some golf push carts are heavier than others and can differ by about 5 pounds or so. The heavier carts are sturdy and will last a good amount of years, but can be a bit bulky. It depends on how much you can or want to lift in and out of your car when transporting it to the course and also how much you want to push around on the course. With all the high-tech materials, there are some extremely lightweight carts that you can find. And I have a feeling that carts will become lighter, more efficient and ergonomic in the future.

Easy to Fold and Store

Push golf carts are designed today to fold down for smaller storage. It’s great for transporting in the trunk of the car or storing at home.

It is important to think about how large or small your space is to store the push cart when not in use. Push carts fold down into various sizes, from longer to fairly compact.

The only downside with these folding mechanisms is that sometimes they can be a bit of a hassle. Most push carts might be complex at first, however, after performing it a few times, it gets easier.

Practice Your Putting With This Mat and Watch Your Scores Drop

With all the practice and golfing that had to be done at home this past year, I wanted to find a putting mat that could really take my game to the next level.

One that could actually help my putting stroke and maximize the time I spend practicing at home. Since there is somewhat of a limit when it comes to practicing golf at home even with all the great gadgets, hitting nets and training aids, I love the idea of putting at home to help my game.

Why? Because it’s easy and not too time-consuming to roll some putts several times during the day or evening.

During work hours or while I’m doing housework, I can easily take a 5 – 10 minute break and head over to my putting mat and putt. When my family and I are binge watching Netflix, getting up to practice putts is also a great way to get myself off the couch and move, all while not missing a beat on any shows.

Why I Finally Purchased The Perfect Practice Putting Mat

I had seen the Perfect Practice Putting Mat on social media for a while and was definitely intrigued. Many professional golfers were endorsing it so I thought I would check it out.

I actually already had a basic putting turf mat I had bought years ago. If I upgraded, I wanted to make sure this new putting mat was going to be worth the extra money.

So, I did some research and liked what I found.

The features that interested me that my current mat didn’t have included putting lines to help with alignment, a few different lengths to choose from for longer putts. And I really liked the overall look. A putting mat that I could keep out in my living room if visitors came over.

I went ahead and purchased it and have had no regrets buying it. In fact, I decided to write this review to show how much I truly love this putting mat and why all my friends, followers and golfing buddies should have one of these in their house to help improve their golf game.

Personal Review of the Perfect Practice Putting Mat

I purchased the standard size, which comes with a 9 foot putting mat and 2 putting holes.

It arrived in a nice sized medium box (with the photo of Dustin Johnson endorsing and using it) and was extremely easy to assemble even for me. Less than 5 minutes to take it out of the box and put the various pieces together.

Once assembled, the putting mat had to be unrolled to lay flat. This was the most time consuming part. I gave it a couple of days and didn’t actually try it sooner as I wanted to give it the time to really flatten out.

We had a long wooden board around the same size that we placed over the mat that worked really well.

Many people may not have a long board to use, so you can also use some books or magazines if you want to help flatten it quicker. I don’t think a full 2 days is needed either.

Features I Love

Ok, so let’s get to it. Here’s why I am ga ga over this Perfect Putting Mat.

Quality & Overall Look

The quality of the mat itself is really quite nice. It is not made of astroturf or artificial grass turf that you typically would see on other putting mats or home putting greens. It is more of a synthetic vinyl of some sort which means no real friction when putting. The rubber backing on the putting mat helps prevent sliding on hard floors or a rug.

The wooden pieces are a medium to dark stain with almost a slight mahogany look and feel. The pieces that come with the structure including the mat, connect well, are sturdy and not cheap feeling.

The look of the overall structure and putting mat is sophisticated enough for a nice office, a living or family room, rec room, or really wherever. A friend of mine was asking for a nice birthday gift for her husband and I suggested this as it is not only useful for any golfer, but also looks nice in any room in the house.

Perfect Practice Putting Mat Quality

Two Putting Hole Options

The standard size and longer lengths come with two putting holes sizes. (see photo above)

To practice being a better putter, I love to use the smaller hole as it makes my putting more precise.

Lines for Directional Alignment

Putting Alignment for Perfect Practice Putting Mat

I mentioned alignment and putting above. The Perfect Practice Putting Mat comes with the option of lines – solid and dotted. The purpose of these lines is to help line up putts.

What I realized when I first started using this mat was that my putts were not rolling straight and most times I tended to pull my putts to the left. What this mat has helped me do is bring my putter straight back and straight through. Creating a much straighter path with less pulled putts.

These lines help ensure my putter is in alignment all the way through the putting stroke.

Length Options

The mats come in various lengths, compact (total structure if 8′ long and 9″ wide), standard (9’6″ L x 15″ W), and XL (15’6″ x 15″ wide).

The compact size has only 1 putting hole while the other two sizes come with the option of the 2 holes. If you can fit at least the standard length in your house, I highly recommend it.

Perfect Practice Putting Mat Distance Markers & Length

To be able to putt 9 foot putts is much different than putting 3 – 5 footers, so the longer length is great. And if you want really long putts at 15′, get the XL as long as you have the space.

Efficient Ball Return

Who wants to have to walk up to retrieve your golf ball after every putt?

For purposes of ease and efficiency in putting practice, a ball return is great to have. I especially like this one because you can grab a couple of balls or a half dozen and line them up in the queue, like in bowling. And just fire away, putt after putt without having to keep retrieving your golf balls.

The ball return is a long wooden piece that brings the ball back. It is made up of 4 different pieces, which allows it to be adjustable or customizable in length.

The wooden pieces have magnets that click together. If you are practicing shorter putts, you can easily make the ball return shorter and take a piece or 2 out. I tend to leave it the full length as I find it just as easy to grab the golf balls from the queue.

Speed of Roll and Stimp Meter Rating on Perfect Practice Putting Mat

One question you may have is how fast the golf ball rolls on this putting mat.

I had this same question when looking into purchasing it.

In terms of feel, I love the smoothness of the roll on this mat. I think it is fairly similar to my home course, maybe a tad bit faster which is a good thing for me as I find it much harder to adjust to a faster green than a slower one when playing golf. The technology that is used for the mat is called “crystal velvet true roll technology” and it is what gives it the smooth, efficient roll and speed that it provides.

From the Perfect Practice website, the stimp meter averages about a 10 – 14 depending on the underlying surface. A harder surface like hardwood, the ball will roll like a 14. If the mat is situated on a thicker carpet, it’ll be more like a 10 (slower). I like my mat being on hardwood flooring, as I like a faster ball speed when putting.

To me, this adjustability and the overall speed is wonderful. Here’s why.

Last year, I had a big tournament where they rolled the greens and were super fast. Much faster than what I was used to. I want to be able to practice on a fast green so I can get used to it for tournaments, competitive matches or new courses where the greens are much faster. This putting mat provides me a way to do this without trying to find a faster practice green somewhere.

Other Features I Like

The Uphill Ramp

Each mat has an uphill slope or ramp.

At first, I wasn’t so sure I liked this as I like to nestle the ball right up next to the hole while on the course.

Yes, too many times I used to putt well past the hole. So, my fear has been that of sending the ball past the hole for another hard putt and thus, leading to a dreaded 3 putt.

But, what I have recently found is that professional golfers do not leave their putts short.

Perfect practice putting Mat Uphill Ramp

If they miss, it is typically just past the hole or to the side just a touch. If you always leave your putts short, they won’t go in the hole.

Safe to say then, that if you can at least get the ball to the hole, you’ve already increased your percentages of making that putt compared to a short putt. The purpose of the ramp is make sure you hit it with just enough extra speed to get it to the hole. Using this ramp has changed my perspective when practicing my putts and is helping me get the ball to the hole.

Removable Backboard and Golf Ball Holder

This putting structure accounts for mishits and overhits where putts might go off the back of the mat. This has a removable wooden backboard that keeps the golf ball from rolling off the back of the structure. Another nice option to have.

And behind the board is a nice place to keep a couple of extra golf balls.

Portability

I would say that the putting mat is fairly portable. I have had to take it down a few times as well as move it to another room. Fairly easy to move with the various pieces. And while you may not want to store the mat rolled up tightly, you could fold the mat loosely instead. Even if you rolled it up, all you would need to do is take the time to let it flatten out again.

Very easy to move around, take down and reassemble.

Pros and Cons – Perfect Practice Putting Mat

Pros

  • Nice quality.
  • Sophisticated looking.
  • Longer length options for longer putts.
  • Distance markers.
  • Mat, putting hole and ball return – bundled together.
  • Directional lines (option) for alignment aid.
  • Additional training aids for improving the putting stroke.
  • Putting mat has a true feel and roll.
  • 2 holes with different size options for putting.
  • Left handed mats available.

Cons

  • Length. It could be a bit long for some spaces. Make sure to measure your space. While it is easy to move around and fold up, it is always best to order the right size option.
  • Price. It is on the higher side for price compared to other putting mats on the market. As long as you use it, it is well worth the money as it is such a great training aid and tool for taking your game to the next level.

Perfect Practice Discount and How To Order

The reasons why I really do love this putting mat are the features that help my putting game and the quality of the product. There is also an attention to detail that indicate the designers put a lot of thought into not only the overall look and feel of their product, but truly wanted to make sure it works and helps golfers improve their golf games.

If you are interested in finding more info or want to order a Perfect Practice Putting Mat, follow this link and be sure to use the discount “LYNNLINKS15” at checkout and you’ll get an additional 15% off.

Oh and be sure to check out their additional training tools/accessories as well as their FREE videos under the Drop 5 System section (on the website). It includes 5 sample video drills you can use with the mat. They are a great way to get started.

Once you receive your mat, you’re going to rock the putting game. Remember that the only way to really become proficient and consistent with your putting is practice. And yes, this is the “perfect” way to practice putting at home or in your office and to help you make more 1 and 2 putts and lower scores.

Remember putting is one of the best areas to focus on in golf and doesn’t require extra strength or brute force.

Practice, dedication and some commitment will go a long way.

Drive for show, putt for dough!
